How to read your channel

Your own breakouts are the best data you have

Niche trends tell you what works for other audiences. Your own uploads tell you what works for yours. This analyzer measures every recent video against your channel's median — Shorts against Shorts, long-form against long-form — so you can see which packaging and topics your viewers actually reward.

01

Compare like with like

A Short and a 20-minute video live in different feeds. Each format is measured against its own median, so a strong Short doesn't make your long-form look weak.

Weak

"My Shorts get 50K and my videos get 5K, so videos are failing."

Better

"This video did 3× my long-form median — what did its title promise?"

02

Read breakouts against misses

The useful signal is the difference. If breakouts name a result and misses name a topic, that's your packaging lesson — not the topic itself.

Weak

Make more videos about whatever broke out last.

Better

Keep the promise style of your breakouts and apply it to your next topic.

03

Re-package, don't delete

A miss with a good topic often had a weak title or thumbnail. Changing them on an older video is free and sometimes revives it.

Weak

Delete videos that underperformed.

Better

Rewrite the title and thumbnail of a miss whose topic still fits, then watch its views.

04

Give new uploads a week

Videos younger than seven days are still collecting views, so they're left out of the baseline. Judge a new upload after its first week, not its first hour.

Weak

Panic when a video is below median after one day.

Better

Check it against the median after 7 days.

Rewrites are illustrative examples, not measured results.

Before your next upload

  • Which two of your breakouts are closest to the next video's topic?
  • Does the new title make the same kind of promise they made?
  • Is there a miss worth re-packaging this week?
  • Check the new title, thumbnail and first line together before publishing.
FAQ

Questions

Do I need to connect my YouTube account?+

No. The analyzer only reads public data — your last 50 public uploads and their view counts — so there's no login and no access to private analytics.

How is a breakout measured?+

A video's views divided by the median views of the channel's other uploads of the same format that are at least 7 days old. 1.5× or more counts as a breakout; half or less as below your usual.

Why doesn't it show click-through rate or retention?+

Those are private YouTube Studio numbers. We only use public data and never estimate what we can't measure.

Can I analyze someone else's channel?+

Yes — any public channel works, which makes it useful for studying channels in your niche too.
