What high-performing YouTube videos have in common

We measured the titles, thumbnail text and opening hooks of high-performing videos in our dataset — 78% of them pulled more views than their channel has subscribers. Sample: 69 titles, 54 thumbnails and 71 hooks across several niches. It's a small, curated sample — read it as patterns worth testing, not rules.

Method and limits

  • • Videos come from public YouTube Data API searches in a set of niches, each with its views-per-subscriber ratio recorded when collected.
  • • Counts are computed from the current dataset each day; English-language items only.
  • • The sample is small and curated, so percentages can move as data is added. Nothing here shows cause and effect — a pattern that appears often among winners may also appear often among videos that didn't win.
  • • For your niche specifically, the Outlier Finder measures fresh videos against their own channel median.
